What books do you want to read?

Books I’m reading at present:

The Ethics of Aristotle

The Bhagavad Gita

the Upanishads

The Varieties of Religious Experience, William James

Concentration & Meditation Swami Paramananda

Tao Te Ching, Lao Tsu

The Complete Confucius

By far the most influential of these is the Bhagavad Gita. It is a beautiful and profound text. Ghandi kept a copy with him until his death.

This is not a direct quote, but an edited one:

I am pure consciousness, the underlying essence of all elements and beings.

I am the innate nature of everything.

In pure water I am the sweet taste.

In the sun and moon I am the radiance.

In the very center of human beings I live as virility and courage.

I am the delicate scent, the sweet fragrance of the earth.

I am the brilliance in both fire and sun, and I am the light of Divinity in all beings.

I am the subtle spirit in spiritual practices that gives them their existence – the love in the devotee, the simple austerity in the ascetic, the sweet sense of charity in the giver.

This is a profoundly thoughtful and inspiring list of readings. I love how you’ve woven together texts from philosophy, spirituality, and psychology, showing a dedication to understanding both the inner life and universal truths. Your reflection on the Bhagavad Gita is especially beautiful—the way you distill its essence captures the text’s deep resonance and timeless wisdom. Sharing those poetic lines reminds us of the divine presence in all aspects of life, from the simplest scent of earth to the brilliance of the sun, making the spiritual tangible and alive. A truly enriching and contemplative share.

Thank you. You know, all of my reading about the great texts through history reveal surprisingly little that really resonates with me. I didn’t know why until I read Iris Murdoch who said the thing philosophers have missed from their theories is love. I think she was spot on. Love is missing from most accounts of why things are the way they are and in my mind, it is at the centre of everything. ❤️

If we literally leave behind the most essential part of the map it would just be the body then and the soul goes missing!!! Haven’t read Murdoch… now that you have mentioned her… Let’s see when can I grab a copy!!
