Ingredients:

  • GRATITUDE: To be grateful for the things I have, not yearn for the things I want.
  • PURPOSE: To find my own truth. Life doesn’t provide me with a purpose in life, I must find it for myself.
  • MORALITY: To lead a morally good life.
  • KINDNESS: To be kind and considerate, but not so kind that I give more than is reasonable to give. I will consider others, be tolerant, and heed others’ opinions as well as my own.
  • HONESTY: To be honest. I will not deceive, cheat, lie or steal.
  • SELF-CONTROL: To practice self-regulation. I will learn to control my thoughts and behaviour, and manage my emotions.
  • EQUALITY: To see myself as the equal of anyone else, but not superior to them.
  • HARMONY: To live in peace. To not purposefully harm others, either physically or emotionally.
  • LOVE: To cherish my family and friends. My family and friends are those that are familiar to me, those that I love, respect and want to grow with.
  • ENVIRONMENT: To protect nature. I will actively preserve earths ecosystems to the best of my ability, because a good environment is imperative for a happy life.
  • SACRIFICE: To know the value of sacrifice. Learn that by giving up something of value, or doing without things I cherish, can help me grow as a person.

These might seem simple or even old-fashioned to some, but truly living by them takes so much heart, strength, and intention. They’re not easy to practice, but they’re deeply meaningful.

Yes they are difficult to live by, and they don’t guarantee a happy life either, but I do think they are essential.
