Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.

I try to avoid anything with Trump in it. The man is a self-serving, egotistical, wind bag. He is of course, in the pocket of Big Oil, just as our Reform party in the UK are. Yesterday, desperate to avoid the inevitable demise of gasoline driven cars to electric motors, he attacked Jaguar’s new concept car as ‘woke’. Of course he did. Electric cars represent a threat to America’s prosperity. I get that. But, just as we Brits found out in the early part of the 20th century when our Empire crumbled, you can’t stop progress. We Brits couldn’t adapt to change. We didn’t ride the new curve that was happening in the world – oil. We were pioneers of the Industrial Revolution, but we just didn’t get that steam and coal were dead, and oil was the new king. I watch the US now in a similar way. China is outsmarting them. They are switching to renewables en masse, because they know it will give them energy security and freedom from international market fluctuations. It is history repeating itself. Besides that, it’s clean too. It saves lives and protects public health.
A month ago I finally bought an electric car. it’s a used one, four years old and quite cheap. I did all my research and picked up a bargain Peugeot e-2008. I’ve been driving 40 years now and I’ve never driven an automatic. The UK is almost entirely gears (stick shift) so I never had the opportunity to. The electric car experience is like driving an automatic but then some. It is sublime. Almost no engine sound, incredible speed and power, every gadget under the sun, and such smooth handling. It is just beautiful driving. No wonder Trump and his oil buddies are worried. As for charging, I can do 80% in 25 minutes, I can charge at home for less than a pound, and there are chargers every couple of miles in the UK.
Big Oil have been lying to us for at least thirty years, but the game is up. It’s time we all ‘woke’ up to switching to superior technology that will avoid polluting our cities and protect our health. It’s here and it is the future.
