What’s the most fun way to exercise?
After a lifetime of being a couch potato, I got into the gym in my late fifties and started going 4 times a week. I would do weights, cardio and aerobic. I could bench press 50kg, deadlift 120kg, and easily do a one hour body pump class. I felt really fit, really strong, but it’s difficult to keep up with that amount of commitment.
Then I got injured and was laid up for three months. Other ailments added to my misery and before I knew it, I stopped going. I tried to get back into it in other ways. I bought a meta-quest headset and did virtual exercising, even hooking it up to my cross-trainer so I could exercise in imaginary worlds. It was good for a while, but then again, poor health hindered my progress.
I know some people like to run, but not me. I love walking 🚶♂️. I’m always motivated to do it, I get a buzz from doing it, and I can think and clear my head. I take photos, absorb the scenery, and listen to the birds. That’s my idea of heaven. It’s walking for me from now on.
