Create an emergency preparedness plan

An emergency pack

Thankfully, real emergencies are rare in the UK. Where I live, we haven’t experienced power cuts, flooding, or a crisis serious enough to warrant the need for an emergency preparedness plan. However, I do believe it is better to have prepared something rather than nothing. During Covid, there were shocking scenes of people fighting in shopping aisles for basic essentials, and I know for sure it would be exactly the same in another emergency. There were recent power outages all across Spain and Europe recently that lasted days on end, and authorities there recommended people have some basic essentials. With that in mind, in my emergency preparedness kit I have:

10 litre water carrier

Wind-up portable radio

Battery powered floodlight

Wind-up torch

Portable gas stove with replacement canisters

3 days worth of non-perishable food

First aid kit

What is more important however, is a willingness to help others in a crisis, a determination not to panic buy, and a desire to only use what I need to survive, not to hoard things for my own selfish aims.

It’s wise to be ready for the unexpected, and your kit shows you’ve thought through the essentials.
What’s even more impressive, as you pointed out, is your mindset. Having a plan is one thing, but your commitment to helping others and avoiding panic is what truly makes a difference in a crisis. That sense of community and shared responsibility is the most important resource of all.✌️😇

Thanks. It’s something I’ve thought is a real possibility and it’s one thing to think about things, but another to carry them out.

Indeed! But that’s what this post was all about preparedness!!! 😇

I can’t remember now, but that definitely seems essential!

Incredibly practical! A friend of mine used to have a ‘zombie apocalypse cupboard’ which was a joke (I think?!) but she had bottled water and non-perishable food in there. I’m not sure if she was expecting an emergency (probably not a zombie apocalypse) but I think she found having the cupboard comforting. Your last paragraph is key – it turns out a lot of things aren’t worth much in a genuine emergency but friends and neighbours are priceless.

A Zombie apocalypse cupboard is brilliant. 😂😂😂 I hope she had an axe 🪓 in it.

It would be great to hear your thoughts about this
