I do sometimes feel like I’m a potato growing in a field of cabbages. I like to talk about culture: art, music, philosophy, religion, and science, but those around me detest them. My wife especially, doesn’t like culture, so I go to galleries and watch TV science on my own, when she’s not around.

I wish programme makers would make factual shows about philosophy, religion and science – deep thinking. The BBC have stopped making them, and I hate the overly dramatic, advert ridden style of the Discovery channel.

There are some great cultural podcasts out there however. I like Stephen West’s Philosophise This and the BBC’s In Our Time with the superb Melvyn Bragg. 99% Invisible with Roman Mars is also a must listen to show, as is the Rest is History with Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook. I’m also a fan of Things Fell Apart by Jon Ronson.

Waldy and Bendy are great for art, as is Professor Janina Ramirez.

So, that’s a lot of my culture fix right there. now I just need to find someone to discuss them with!
