What makes you nervous?

What makes me nervous? Hmmmn well, I’ve had anxiety all my life so I guess I’d say that, free-floating anxiety plagues me really. It’s pretty weird. I worry about all kinds of stupid little things like did I put the bins out, have I left the iron on, yet I handle a crisis really well. In a really tough situation like an accident, I’m ultra cool.

I’ve done a lot of work on my anxiety. I spent a long time practising meditation, which I’m not sure took away the anxiety, just moved it around a bit. Then I was on medication, but I didn’t like the side effects. Anxiety has led me to several breakdowns and serious mental health issues, but hey, I’m still here and still breathing.

In the end, I think it’s about having mental routines that I go through, where I either repeat mantras in my head such as: ‘this is not a threat’, or I distract myself by doing something completely different.

Anxiety strips away essential B vitamins too, so I take them as a supplement. It really does drain you and make you quite ill, so I make sure I do something off my list of mental treats such as going for a candle-lit bath, essential oils, or a walk.

Whatever I do, anxiety is always there and I think it’s just a genetic trait I inherited from my mother. However, I got my artistic ability, (and everything else), from her too, so I think on balance I’m very grateful to her for everything she gave me, even if I am a born worrier.

Gardening and being in nature helps calm my troubled mind

I think being a worrier might not necessarily be a bad thing, yes of course you’ve got to control your messy mind. But worry can also help your cognitive abilities. Help you become sharper and a much better version of yourself.
Ps: I can relate to the turning off iron fear or switching off the sockets when I’m out of the house anxiety 😂

Yes, as you say, it has ups and downs, but overall I’m stuck with it, so have to make the best of it. Thank you

It’s a lovely thought that quiet can help my cognitive abilities! I need it! 😂

It would be great to hear your thoughts about this
