How have you adapted to the changes brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic?

I was lucky. I didn’t get too ill and nor did most of my immediate family, except my nephew who got long covid and is still quite ill with it. There are many Covid sceptics of course, but I think that it was always about the healthy ones trying to save the people who were vulnerable. Some just didn’t get that. My daughter’s flatmate is a nurse who worked on the Covid wards and some of the stories he told me were truly shocking. People dying and still refusing to accept they even had Covid right up until the end, the aggressive, often violent behaviour towards nurses, the horrible way people died and the sheer numbers of people who died.

I wasn’t really affected by lockdowns because I was already working from home. My kids are grown up and my wife was an essential worker. However, the lockdowns had a dramatic effect on my consultancy business. I was just about ready to quit being self employed. I wasn’t making money and was looking for a job when Covid hit. I had the idea of offering online courses over zoom, and all of a sudden my business exploded. It was like that up until my retirement last year. Covid empowered home working and the ability to provide training courses long distance.

So, all in all, Covid did me a favour professionally, but I know many people who sadly died from it, and others who got really sick. My thoughts are with them.
